Today we are faced with a public health crisis, evidenced by rising rates of childhood obesity, further aggravated by recent economic challenges. The United States currently endures historically high levels of food insecurity, with a record number of families living on federal food assistance programs. Wholesome Wave is at the forefront of the movement to address these issues by promoting an affordable, sustainable local food system. Wholesome Wave is a catalyst for improving the economic viability of farming, improving nutrition in food deserts, strengthening diverse communities, and reducing health care costs. The outcome will mean that underserved communities will have played a significant role in making local, sustainable food systems a reality.
The Nourishing Neighborhood programs provide the opportunity to collaborate with state and national foundations, corporations and health institutions, alongside city, state, and federal entities to catalyze systemic change in the nation’s food system and to promote a healthier lifestyle. Wholesome Wave strives to Nourish the Nation, one neighborhood at a time.
