A Very Wholesome Summer
This busy summer is coming to a close, but harvest season is just around the corner
We have been busy this summer, working to expand Wholesome Wave Programming into new states and making regular visits to existing partner markets in an effort to deepen our impact. We’re proud to report that all of our partners are making great strides in the effort to increase SNAP redemption for locally grown fruits and vegetables, through Wholesome Wave programming.
Our Executive VP of Policy, Gus Schumacher, has kept a careful log of his many market visits, and reports how their combined efforts will help make healthy food incentives a permanent part of our policy landscape. They are actively working to make federal food assistance benefits permanent at markets.
Wholesome Wave is proud to have been invited to submit an article for publication in the Maine Policy Review, to make a strong case for the role nutrition incentives can play in making healthy food access both available and affordable to those in need. The article, providing considerable implications for change, was well received in policy circles.
Written by Michel Nischan, Gus Schumacher & Daniel Bowman Simon, the 8000 word piece was featured in the largest-ever edition released by this highly respected publication. Wholesome Wave’s achievements have led to political consideration for nutrition incentives to become a permanent part of the American policy landscape. Check out our blog to learn more about what affordable access might accomplish for in terms of food justice, and the promise that affordable access can bring to all Americans, regardless of income.
We encourage you to read through our past blogs and reflect on the significant accomplishments achieved by our talented Wholesome Wave team and valued program partners this summer.
