The Party of the Decade
We threw the party of the decade. Specifically, a benefit dinner to celebrate our first ten years, and raise money for what’s next.
On Monday June 5th Chef Alex Guarnaschelli hosted the sold-out celebration at her locavore American restaurant Butter, in the heart of Manhattan, and welcomed Chef Michael Anthony of Gramercy Tavern into her kitchen to cook up a multi-course feast for our guests. Anthony’s pastry chef Miro Uskokovic and “Mister Chococlate” Jacques Torres created dessert and tables around the packed room were hosted by more star chefs including Andrew Zimmern, Barbara Lynch, Ken Oringer and our board member Jose Andres. Founder & CEO Michel Nischan was Master of Ceremonies.
Guests watched a short film about our work, honored founding funders Betsy and Jesse Fink and board chair Andrew Hertzmark and gave generously to support our mission. But the highlight of the night must have been Jose Andres’s rousing remarks. We streamed it on Facebook Live – watch it here. He hailed, from the heart, Wholesome Wave’s core vision that, in Jose’s words, “Every man and woman in American deserves a plate of fruits and vegetables, no matter who they are!” Cue standing ovation.
In the end, that’s what the night was all about. Our 240 guests ate well all night, so that Americans in poverty will eat better from coast to coast, all year long. Because poverty should never keep people from affording something as essential as fruits and vegetables.
Couldn’t join us? You can still give here.
A big thank you to Vintage Wine Estates, Tito's Handmade Vodka and AeroFarms for their contributions to the event.
